The Heart of Our Missions Ministry
At Calvary Chapel Star, we believe in Jesus’ command known as
“The Great Commission:"
“All authority has been given to me in Heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations”
Matthew 28:18-20
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to go, share the Gospel, and make disciples both locally and around the world. Our heart for missions is rooted in Romans 10:14-15, reminding us that there are more ways to be involved in Missions than just getting on an airplane. For those that can’t GO themselves - they can be senders. We can all take part in the Great Commission because The truth is that people cannot believe in Jesus unless they first hear the Good News.
Through prayer, support, outreach, and sending missionaries, we desire to bring the hope and love of Jesus Christ to those who have yet to hear. The mission is clear, and the time to go is now!

Opportunities
As our church grows we plan to bring more teams to the ends of the earth.…
We currently have on our heart to come alongside missionaries and bring teams to help with whatever they have going on from construction, painting, evangelism, cleaning, toys, scrubbing floors, or dancing and making balloon animals for the community kids. We don’t want to go with our own agenda and be a burden, but rather come alongside the greatest needs of the missionaries on the field who live there 24/7 and be a blessing and refreshing to them.

Equip Classes
It is so important to know how to share your faith! From a daily grocery store run, to an airplane seat on the way to your next missions trip - opportunity is everywhere! Don’t get to your destination and realize you don’t know how to explain the gospel to someone. Be prepared - Equip classes are regularly offered to the body and allow you to share your faith with clarity and confidence.
Check out the Equip Ministry page here to see when the next evangelism training begins. You can also memorize the 4 steps and corresponding Bible verses on our Know God web page.

Past Missions Trips
We are a growing ministry and are so excited to link up with like-minded brothers and sisters across the world!
Uganda 2024
In July 2024 we sent a team of 19 to the rural areas of Midgo, Uganda. We ministered to the 750 kids at the school through a VBS where we provided snacks and crafts, did an outreach at the local muslim high school, ministered to the new moms at the hospital and blessed the babies with blankets, burp rags, and small gifts. We were able to share the love of Jesus and visit with the church in Midgo, and it was a blessed 2 weeks. During Calvary Chapel Star's VBS in 2024 & 2025 the kids raised money for the church in Midgo to farm 18 acres of beans, buy chickens and goats, and dig a well that provides clean water to their community. Our kids did this all with pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. It was incredible.

Peru 2025
25 of us jumped on a plane and came alongside Calvary Chapel Trujillo and CBI Kauai for a trip that changed us all forever. We landed in Moyobamba, Peru which is in the Amazon. We experienced the jungle and the beautiful people there. We sent teams out to share the love of Jesus, did construction and gardening at a location that will train pastors to teach the Bible, and take it into their tribes that have yet to hear of Jesus. We threw a VBS and went into the college for an outreach, did a community dodgeball outreach and watched so many people come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ. We spent our last week of the trip in Trujillo, Peru. We were able to serve at a Valentines dinner where 300 people came to hear about the love of Jesus, and the hope He offers for their lives and marriages. We reached the kids in the community through VBS where they heard about Jesus’s Love, while some team members helped with different construction projects including the Calvary in Buenos Aires (The Venezuelan Church). My favorite recap of our trip was from one of our young missionaries… she’s 12 years old and said "It's crazy that as poor as these people are and even though they live on dirt floors, and have piles of trash around them - because of the message of the gospel they will be walking on streets of Gold in eternity."

Our Missionary
Calvary Chapel Star is blessed to come alongside the Ochoa family — Mario, Andrea, Leon, and Oso - as the first missionary family our church is helping to financially support.
Mario serves on staff at Calvary Trujillo in Peru, South America, where he faithfully ministers in many areas of church leadership and outreach. He serves as the Director of the Calvary Bible Institute (CBI) in Peru, coordinating teachers, overseeing students, and helping equip future leaders for ministry.
Alongside his wife Andrea and their two boys, Mario also travels throughout South America, sharing the love of Jesus with those who have might not know Jesus yet. He helps coordinate and lead mission trips with the Calvary Trujillo team, creating opportunities for people to step out in faith through evangelism, teaching, serving, and outreach ministry.
In addition, Mario serves as the High School Youth Pastor and faithfully fills many other roles as needs arise within the church. This summer, he is helping lead a 6-Week "Summer on Mission” program designed to expose and equip young adults for life and service on the mission field. The students will take participate in construction projects, community outreaches, evangelism, testimony sharing, teaching opportunities, and hands-on ministry throughout South America.
As a church family, please keep the Ochoa family in prayer:

- For Mario and Andrea’s marriage to remain strong and to be a godly example to the church in Peru
- For abundant energy and endurance as they faithfully serve in Trujillo
- For Leon and Oso to adapt well and thrive in their Spanish language skills
- For God’s continued provision, guidance, and blessing over their ministry
