To seek clarity, vision, and divine appointments from God. We believe He did exactly that and answered so many prayers, not only of our hearts but also of all of you who were praying for this at home. From the moment we arrived and even days into the conference, God was separately placing people in our paths at different times. One night, we came back together as a team and started to share about who God was placing on our hearts and who we had talked to.

Wouldn’t you know the Amazing God we serve had ordained those divine appointments. Independently and scattered across the campus, it was the same few families and missionaries that each of us connected with. Total unplanned unity among the team and the connections that were being formed! Yes, out of over 400 attendees at the conference, and so many needs and incredible people, God directed each step. It was a miracle and such a blessing as we sat there seeing God answer prayers right before our eyes.

One specific prayer request that the Lord put on the hearts of Rochelle and I was to be able to meet some missionaries from Colombia at this conference. Since we were young girls, God started stirring our hearts for missions and put Colombia, the Colombian Pastors & missionaries, and the orphanages there as a place to pray for. One of the divine appointments was meeting Wilian Aperador and his precious family, who live in Sogamoso, Colombia. He is a pastor over a sweet congregation and just purchased their very first plot of land, and wouldn’t you know it. The land they just acquired is directly connected to an orphanage. What a neat thing to see the Lord work and answer prayers that are 30 years old. Getting to meet the people we never knew but passionately prayed for so long ago, and God had it all planned from the beginning. Our God is good and faithful and knows the desires of our hearts.

Join us in prayerfully seeking God’s will and if He would be leading us to come alongside the ministry of Wilian and what God is doing in Sogamoso, Colombia.

God did more than we could have ever expected. From open doors to serve and connections made with pastors and missionaries, it seems that the Lord has created some lifelong connections. The CCS Team has done an incredible job humbly serving the missionaries and pastors during the South America Missions Conference. From bagging trash, cleaning restrooms (unique in Peru – haha), tending to the campus, and more… I have no doubt the unseen service was a huge blessing to everyone who came. One of the unexpended opportunities was when one of the speaker’s flights was canceled and I got to teach a workshop on Biblical Leadership. It could have been something broken that needed to be fixed, it could have been a child who needed help, it may have been someone grieving who needed comfort. No matter the situation, you were there and aware of the need. But who should do it? Well, in short - It’s you.

Is it a neighbor who you know needs help but wont ask? It’s you. Take initiative and help. Is there a concern with something going on at your kid’s school? It’s you. Go have a conversation and help find the solution. Is there a civic issue in your city? It’s you. Go to the council meeting and raise your concern. Is there an election coming up? It’s you. Be a light and cast your vote for righteousness. Remember, the world is made up of individuals and a community is the sum of how each of those individuals live. As long as we live in a society where we know the need and feel like someone else should fix the problem, we will be waiting for things to get better for the rest of our lives.

There is a woman in the Bible named Ester, who, against her will, found herself between a rock and a hard spot. Being married to the king but culturally a Jew. Why was that so hard? Well, there was a wicked man close to the king who had convinced the governing powers to kill off all of Ester’s people. With the day of genocide quickly approaching it seemed that there was no one who could bring an end to coming madness. But Ester’s uncle said something to her. He told her, “She was born for such a time as this.” In God’s power and knowledge, He brought Ester into the world when He did and allowed her marriage to the king because something much more important was going on. Long story short, she respectfully presented her case which resulted in the preservation of her people and justice being leveled against the wicked man.

Additionally, the Bible says in Acts 17 that God has established the bounties of your dwelling. You live where you do for a reason and for a purpose bigger than you realize. Not that it must be one big Ester type issue. But if you take a hundred one-pound weights it can feel quite heavy. A life lived making a lot of little right decisions, will be a life, that in the end, will have had quite the impact.

If you ever find yourself aware of a need and wonder who should do something, it’s you. You were born for such a time as this. If you are aware of it, you are supposed to be part of resolving it. It’s not someone else’s responsibility. It’s not someone else’s job. It’s not someone else’s issue. Its you. Comfortable or not, skilled or not, ITS YOU. You were born for such a time as this.

In November of 2023, among a variety of offices, we had our local mayoral elections. Campaign seasons can get quite interesting and have a fascinating way of bringing the best, and worst, out of people. All said and done, we must remember that we are the UNITED States of America, that we are on the same team, and that we are to dwell together in unity. I would like to take this opportunity to ask our communities to come together and pray for, encourage, and support our city officials and mayors. More pointedly, as we are called in Scripture to pray for those who are in authority, (1 Timothy 2:1-3) I would like to call the residents of Star and Middleton to commit this year to daily praying for their mayor and city officials. Commit a few minutes each day, set an alarm on your phone if you have to, but pray, pray, pray!

The Bible teaches that a house divided against itself cannot stand. (Matthew 12:25) If we apply that unchanging truth to the communities we live in, we must intentionally cultivate neighborly care and brotherly love within our cities, or, accept the slow decay of all that we love. For the city of Star and your re-elected mayor, Trevor Chadwick, may the vision and momentum for the city be upheld and lived out. For the city of Middleton and your newly elected mayor, Jackie Hutchison, may a new relationship form that is unbreakable and unified.

While mayors fill a very important role in our cities, helping to preserve and guide, it is the community that makes the community. Our elected officials have an opportunity to bring unity and vision but it is the residents of our city, you and I, that have a responsibility to do the very same. May we never forget that in the U.S., our governing body is of the people, by the people, and for the people. The ultimate responsibility belongs to the residents of our community… know and help your neighbors, keep our city clean, pray for those in the local government, make simple but real gestures of support for our educators and school administrators, and send encouragement to the city council, fire, and police.

On behalf of the residents of your city, I would like to send a heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to Mayor Chadwick of Star and to Mayor Hutchison of Middleton! We are praying for you and here to help build the community and preserve our wonderful city for generations to come!

As we make our way through the busiest season of the year, a time focused on gift getting and holiday traditions, why is it that weeks from now, joy will fade and we will be back to our normal lives? After all, if lasting joy came from colorful lights or bringing trees into our living room, just keep them up all year? The reality is, lasting joy has a necessary ingredient known as contentment. The Bible says that godliness, WITH CONTINTMENT, is great gain. Our actions are only half of our life, the other half is how we view everything around us. Do you need one more item to be happy? Does your house need to be just a little bigger to finally be satisfied? Do you have to find a spouse or get the one you have to act the way you want before you can find fulfillment in life? I hope not.

The longer I live the more I have come to realize, “If you can’t be happy with what you have, you will never be happy with what you get.” Websters dictionary defines contentment as, “a resting satisfaction of the mind.” So how do we become filled with contentment? Do we meditate more? Buy crystals that give off the right kind of energy? Do more charitable deeds? Take more supplements or run a few extra miles? Most certainly not. The real antidote to joyless discontentment is to realize how much we have AND who has given it to us.

The Bible says that every good and perfect give has come down from the Lord. The Gospel of Matthew tells us that God brings good things into each of our lives. Believing in God or not won’t change His care for you in this life. His goodness is part of His very nature. Did you notice the beauty of nature today? Thank the Lord! Do your eyes work well enough to read this article? Thank the Lord! Did you sip a hot cup of coffee this morning? Thank the Lord! Did you have to do dishes last night because you had food to eat? Thank the Lord! Rather than allowing your mind to drift toward wanting what you do not have or wincing over situations you cannot change, take your thoughts captive and begin to live with consistent gratitude towards the Lord.

Please! Enjoy the lights and decorate your tree but above all things may you find lasting joy in the greatest gift ever given, Jesus Christ! At the end of life’s road, we will all stand before the Lord. Some of us forgiven and free from our sins because we have put our faith in the one true God. Others will stand before Jesus the judge, guilty and condemned to everlasting judgment because of their unforgiven sins. Which of these will be you? The Bible says that anyone willing to confess Jesus as their Lord and believe He conqued death when He rose from the grave, will be saved. Don’t make it all the way through the Christmas season and miss out on the greatest gift… Jesus Christ Himself. If you have any doubts or questions, we would love to talk with you. Looking at the Middle East and all that is going on in Israel a question that quickly rises to the surface is, “who is right, and who is wrong.” Consider for a moment; What should a nation do when its borders are breached, citizens murdered, and its existence is threatened? What do you do when an Islamic Terrorist group such as Hamas has vowed to eliminate you and your people from the face of the earth? In short, you must fight back and defend. In Psalms 82 we are called to be a defender of the defenseless and a father to the forgotten. These are sweet words but come with a difficult and trying reality.

Throughout Israel’s existence, they have had to endure the gyrations of times of peace, war, and rumors of wars. To make it worse, their current enemy believes that they are gaining heavenly glory by killing innocent civilians and eternal security by dying in battle. Hiding behind their own Palestinian citizens is no problem for those who are committed to Islamic Jihad since they believe that if anyone dies for the cause of Allah, there is a heavy reward waiting for them. No doubt, doctrines of demons.

As for the one true God, He neither sleeps nor slumbers and will watch over Israel in ways that we have never seen. The Biblical prophet Amos foretold of an event that seemed impossible and so far-fetched critics would mock the prophecy. What was it? That Israel would go through a time of exile but that a day would come in which they would be brought back together as a nation and that they would NEVER be uprooted again. Easy to make fun of something that has not happened. However, we don’t hear anyone mocking Amos anymore. It was on May 15, 1948, that Israel was declared a nation again and has inhabited the land ever since… never to be uprooted again.

No matter how violent their neighbors get, no matter what countries get involved, and no matter what rumors may spread, Israel has a God-given promise that the land is theirs and that He will be their defense. No one should rejoice in death, not even the death of the wicked, but make no mistake. Though Israel is for peace, they will fight and with God’s help, win against their enemies that are for war.

There is a line in an old hymn that you may be familiar with… “Oh be careful little ears what you hear, your Father up above is looking down in love, oh be careful little ears what you hear. With the whirlwind of information and news flying about, and much of it half-truths at best, be sure your understanding is in line with what God has spoken and kept for us in the Bible! Please take time to pray for the peace of Israel and when you have the opportunity to speak truth to those around you, don’t be silent! – Psalm 122:6

Today, we turn our attention towards the young ladies within our community and the guidance that is needed to help them grow into strong, wise, capable women.

Steadfastness - No matter what stage of life a lady may find herself to be in, relationships will always be a fluid topic for her to deal with. There will be opportunities to extend forgiveness when hurt by someone. The chance to give difficult but wise advice to someone in need. The possibility to see beyond her friend group and lovingly draw in the lonely outsider. Young girls deal with these topics every day. Let’s be mindful of how our girls are managing their friendships now so that they can have healthy, vibrant relationships later.

Taming the Tongue – Not only do women use almost twice the number of words as men do, but they seem to have a very unique way of bringing joy, encouragement, and comfort into the world. On the other hand, somehow, their words can deflate the soul and extinguish hope more efficiently than they usually realize. We need to teach our young girls that the way they speak to people is powerful and leaves an impact. When all of this goes full circle, the life that gives the most joy usually ends up experiencing the most joy. Some key ingredients to focus on; while removing critique and gossip, help them add grace and compassion.

Knowing Emotions – Most people would agree that, generally speaking, women are more emotional than men. This is not an accusation, just an observation. In all reality, being more emotional is not a bad thing. This very trait is what allows women to be more compassionate, caring, and comforting. On the flip side, emotions can also lead people astray. Sometimes this hinders her from putting up boundaries because she “feels bad” or potentially overreacting to a situation out of “fear” or “worry.” Helping our little girls understand their feelings and then guiding them to act appropriately rather than react emotionally will help shape them into very free, unbound women.

Confident in who they were created to be - No one on earth is everything to everyone, nor should they feel like they need to be. Should we care if someone is smarter, prettier, more wealthy, or athletic? Outside of being able to rejoice and celebrate other individual's strengths and success, the answer is, “no.” Let’s teach our girls to appreciate and express encouragement so that when they get older, they are not intimidated by others nor discouraged by strengths they don’t have. Lastly, rather than doing everything for your little girl, teach them how to do things. Equip and empower them. Give them chances to succeed as well as opportunities to fail. As cute and precious as our little ones are, they may not need as much bubble wrap as we think. A girl who is taught how to contribute to life will live a confident life.

Some Bible verse to read through and consider: 1 Peter 3:3-4, Proverbs 27:6, James 3, Proverbs 25:13, Proverbs 31, Psalm 139:14, Proverbs 21:19, Proverbs 11:16, Ephesians 4:29

Can you be a 40-year-old boy? What makes a man, a man, and if something causes the forward change, what is it? While the list is much longer than we have time for, there are four key elements that need to exist in order to create an environment where boys will develop into strong, stable, healthy men. If you are a parent, grandparent, or play any role that influences children, I want to ask you to consider how you are cultivating these key elements into the life of young boys. Independence, Ownership, Strength, and Compassion.

Independence - An independent man must have an independent mind. He must have a way of thinking that is aware of his surroundings but not easily swayed by it. He must become someone who can think on his own and stand for what is right even if no one else does. So how does that happen? Boys must be thought to think. Ask them what they think of their actions and how their actions will affect those around them. You will always have the chance to insert any correction that is needed but young boys must be taught to think about what they are doing and to consider what that does to those around them.

Ownership – A man is someone who can make decisions and then accept the outcome, no matter what. Teaching our boys that they should not give excuses, deflect failure onto others, or become defensive, is more important than we will ever know.

Strength – It is ok if a young boy cries because he is in pain or is solemn because of disappointment however, they should not be allowed to whine, cry, or act out due to not getting their way. Today crying is often met with coddling rather than correction. We MUST look past the tears and into the heart. Is he sad or is he manipulating to get his way? We must tell boys, “It's ok to be angry,” or, “It’s ok to be disappointed but it is not ok to act out. Instead of crying or hitting, talk it out and work it out.” Boys need to be stronger than their emotions or they will become men who are controlled by their emotions.

Compassion – The stronger a man is, the more helpful he can be. While physical strength is often thought of, I want to talk about mental and emotional strength for a moment. The strength NOT to become callus when hurt. The strength NOT to make a selfish decision when sacrifice is required. From a young age, start asking boys to identify who seems alone in a room, sad in their appearance, or fearful in their body language. Once they can see it, challenge them to do something about it. Compassion is not just caring. Compassion is care with action.

Simple steps: Boys need to be taught how to shake hands, look people in the eye, order their own food at a restaurant, talk responsibility for their actions, and be able to fall down and scrape their knees from time to time. Let’s help our boys grow into strong, stable, healthy men.

Most parents want to know who their children are playing with and what the parents are like. When leaving their kids with a babysitter, there is a certain level of caution that is taken to make sure that the individual is trustworthy.

So what about your child’s teacher? This coming school year there will be people in the lives of your kids and grandkids that have full access to shape the way they think and how they view the world. Do you know what kind of ideas they will be most likely to discuss? For many people, the perspective is that the teacher is the authority, but the reality is, they are not. Mom and Dad, you are the authority in your kid's lives. Teachers actually work for you. They are paid by YOUR tax dollars and hired to help YOU educate YOUR kids. Not that you own them or get to dictate everything thing they do but they should be held accountable for how they do their job. They should know that you exist and that you are involved in your child’s life and education. There are some extremely simple ways to keep in touch with the teachers that are instructing your children.

Go to back to school night, introduce yourself to the teachers. Additionally, I would encourage you to ask them 4 simple but straightforward questions. (1) Ask them what they believe the role and responsibility of a teacher is. (2) Ask them about their opinion on Critical Race Theory. (3) Ask about their view on teaching transgenderism in the classroom. (4) Ask them what they think about freedom of speech in the classroom and if your child will be free to ask questions and share opinions? If you are not able to attend in person, send them an email. Most teachers are more than willing to communicate with parents and educators who are not or who are intimidated by accountability might be the ones who need it the most.

Keep in mind, none of this should be done to try and intimidate or critique educators, they have an incredibly demanding and at times, difficult job. They should however know that parents are watching, that parents care, and that they should stay focused on reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Lastly, don’t forget to encourage them throughout the year. Sometimes we are good at being loud when things are not going good and then silent when things are going well. The true but sad reality that, “no news is good news.” Why not encourage the good things that happen throughout the year? Send an email of encouragement or a gift card for coffee. Be a caring eye but also an encouraging voice. So that business does not extinguish good intentions, actually put reminders on your calendar to check in throughout the year.

For many of us, this sounds like a silly question and yet, for many, it causes our thinking to pause and questions to arise. How about this one? Is it ok to kick back against the government? If either of these questions feels wrong to you, please know dear reader, that your mind has been infiltrated by the enemy.

Consider a few recurring issues that each generation has had to defend. First, our Freedom of Speech. Within our first right as American citizens is the right to say what we believe, and that no organization or individual should be able to hinder us from doing so. It does not say that we can express what we believe so long as it does not hurt someone’s feelings. It simply says that as an American, you and I are free to say what we believe no matter what others think or feel. Additionally, you and I, as citizens of the U.S. have the freedom to peaceably assemble and protest ANYTHING that we believe is not right or that presents a threat to our rights as citizens.

How about the right to bear arms? The Second Amendment has nothing to do with a hobby or hunting. Rather, the Bill of Rights guarantees that our country's citizens should always be able to protect themselves against any enemy, both foreign and domestic. Why was and is it so important to protect each individual citizen's right to own weapons that would be effective in war? The authors and signers of the Declaration of Independence had just concluded a bloody war against a tyrannical and overreaching government, paid for with the lives of their families, friends, and fellow countrymen. The price that was paid to become such a glorious and free nation was too great to lose and must be guarded by every U.S. citizen.

But what about Christians? What does the Bible say? Being a Christian in America is unique and must be understood from our unique position as a citizen. The Bible teaches that we are to be subject to our government so long as our government is a force for good, protecting and advancing what is righteous (Romans 13). As a Christian in America, you are expected to live by the rules of the governing documents of our country. Rules that express that you, as a citizen of this country, are responsible for those who are elected to seats of power. It says that since you live in a country that is of the people, by the people, and for the people, the government works for you, and you are responsible for leading the nation toward righteousness. A responsibility so great, that if you were to neglect to do so, you would be going against God’s will for you as an American. I pray that you have celebrated our independence in the most glorious way and that this month is one of peace and joy. I also pray that you are engaged in the community and that you fulfill the call of God upon your life to be wise and lead toward righteousness.

Like most of us, you are probably thinking about how well you can see. Others might think of a five-year business plan and the “vision” they have for their company. As important as both of these may be, there is an understanding of the term “vision” that is crucial to our lives, the lives of our families, and the welfare of our communities.

Think about what vision brings to our life. Simply put, when we can see, we can understand. When fog sets in and you cannot tell where the road starts and stops, your vision is compromised, and you are in danger of crashing your car. When walking through a dark room in the middle of the night, your vision is diminished, and you are in danger of walking into a piece of furniture or a wayward toy your kids left out. When trying to navigate your way home under the influence of drugs or alcohol, your thinking is impaired, and you are not able to negotiate your actions correctly. Vision and understanding are crucial to everything we do.

The Bible says that “without vision, the people perish.” (Proverbs 29:18) It is interesting to look back and see that the more of God’s Word we removed from the public square, the more our country began to slowly inch its way from united to divided. A time when now, everyone wants to be able to do what is right in their own eyes. My dear reader, take heart! The remedy is within reach. Our country, communities, and homes need a renewed vision, or understanding, of who God is and knowledge of His will. We need a resurgence of the Bible.

Think about it. The more Bible is removed from the public square, the more divorce increases, anxiety rises, and the swelling experience of depression is amplified. So, what do we do? Simple. Bring the Bible back into our lives and as much as the Lord would allow, back into the lives of those around us. A recent study done by the Center For Bible Engagement has shown that when people decide to read the Bible 4 days a week or more, the feeling of loneliness drops 30%, anger issues decrease 32%, bitterness towards others drops 40%, drunkenness is lowered by 49%, sex outside of marriage goes down 68%, viewing pornography goes down over 60%, and destructive habits and thoughts decrease by 61%.

So, dear reader, how is your vision? Do you know the Lord and clearly see the life He is calling you to live? Is there a true understanding of Who God is and what He is like? If not, renew your vision, pick up your Bible, and begin to read. If you do not know where to start, the Gospel of Matthew would be a great place to begin your journey. Even those who deny His very existence, call out for help when trials or trauma are upon them. Make no mistake. The universe cannot help you, religion cannot save you, and no amount of good works can help you level up in eternity. It is Jesus Christ, the creator of all things seen and unseen, the One who was, and is, and is to come, and it is He alone who can show divine favor and mercy upon mankind. Our confidence does not lie in our faith but in Who our faith is in. It is because of His sovereign power and eternal rule that the National Day of Prayer was established. In 1952 we were experiencing global uncertainty and looming threats coming forth because of the Korean War. It was then that President Harry S. Truman issued a proclamation making the first Thursday in May an annual call to the nation to seek the Lord in humble prayer and fasting.

If you’re thinking this sounds unconstitutional - Try again! In April of 2011, The National Day of Prayer was unsuccessfully challenged in court by the Freedom From Religion Foundation and was unanimously upheld by a federal appellate court. Not only is it constitutional but it is consistent with the foundation of our nation. President Truman joined the ranks of our forefathers, issuing this proclamation and calling the nation to prayer. Men like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Madison called the nation to prayer and fasting. Similar calls to national prayer and repentance were repeatedly made throughout our nation's history.

I often find echoing through my mind the words that Benjamin Franklin spoke to the Constitutional Convention on June 28, 1787. “I've lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this Truth — That God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an Empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings, that except the Lord build the House they labor in vain who build it. I firmly believe this, — and I also believe that without His concurring Aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel:
The Bible records God’s call to repentance and prayer. God says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

To all those who name the name of Jesus, I implore you to join us in person on
Thursday, May 4th for the National Day of Prayer. If you can make it to the State Capitol in Boise at 4:00pm, we will be on the front steps in song and prayer. Spread the word and come PRAY FOR OUR CITIES, FIRST RESPONDERS, MILITARY, EDUCATORS, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, CHURCHES, AND OUR NATION!

Even as a child, I knew that there was something special about Christmas. Something that was deeper and more significant than the lights on the tree, the music that is played, delicious desserts, and wonderful gifts. It was the baby, wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in the manger. God our Savior had actually come, in the likeness of mankind with the intent to save us from our sins. But what if all He did was come? What if all He did was teach and reveal truths about who He was and about eternity? And what if the cross was the end of the story? The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15 that, “… if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.” But He did come, He did die, and He did rise again from the dead. The glorious thing about easter, or what I like to call Resurrection Sunday, is that we are reminded every year just how powerful God is and how much hope He wants us to have in the life that is to come.

I love what the apostle Peter says in the Bible, that they did not follow cunningly devised fables but that they were eyewitnesses of the life and resurrection of Christ. John says that he wrote about the things that were heard, seen, and even handled… not a made-up fairytales. There is even a record of Jesus being seen by over 500 people, all at once, AFTER His crucifixion and burial. Let’s not forget that easter is not just about kids finding the eggs… it is about the Risen Savior.

I pray that your life is not lived from one event to the next. Hopscotching your way from presents at Christmas, something romantic for Valentine’s Day, bunnies and eggs at easter, and fireworks for the 4th of July. Don’t get me wrong, The Lord deeply desires that our lives would be full of joy and admiration. But in the end, when we reach our final day here on earth, there must be more. Your sins must be dealt with. Either by yourself in eternal judgment, or through faith in Christ and what He did on the cross. The hope of a joyous, forgiven life in eternity must NOT be in how good of a person you are, or if you have followed the right rules. Eternal hope comes from putting your trust fully in the death AND resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Bible says that these things were written so that you may know and have confidence in eternal life. If you do not personally know that you are forgiven or if you have questions, please find a good Bible-teaching church and check it out or feel free to give us a call. We are praying for you and for all of those in the Treasure Valley. (208) 329-5144

Few people know that Theodor didn’t only hold the highest and most prestigious position within our country but also studied at Colombia Law School and was a graduate of Harvard. It was when he had acquired higher education and was leading the most influential nation on earth that he observed and made known the immense value of knowing the Bible. So, was he qualified? Absolutely! As much as I love and agree with what President Roosevelt said, I have a question that is worth considering. Was his statement true?

Did you know that there are an estimated 5 billion copies of the Bible on earth and that the Bible is hands down, year after year, the best-selling book on the planet? Additionally, there was a study done comparing people who read the Bible with the impact that it had on their life, relationship, and mental health. For those who read the Bible 4 days a week or more, the findings were astonishing. Feeling lonely drops 30%, anger drops 32%, bitterness in relationships drops 40%, feeling stagnant in life drops 60%, alcoholism drops 57%, sex outside of marriage drops 68%, viewing pornography drops 61%, and personal contentment goes up an almost immeasurable amount. No amount of higher education has even come close to influencing people's lives like the Bible does.

But what do we do about all of the critics who say that the Bible is full of hate or that its contradictions prove it is not the Word of God? Believe it or not, I deeply appreciate those kinds of questions. No one should ever believe something simply because they are told to. The Bible, as well as anything else that claims to be true, should be able to endure all kinds of tests. It’s been said that “if we have the truth, no harm can come from investigation.” Interestingly enough, most people who are anti-Bible have built their beliefs on the opinions of other people rather than their own investigation.

For those who have ever dared to apply their time and intellect to the cause of disproving the Bible, they have ended up believing in it. Consider Gilbert West, a student at Oxford University who set out to challenge the resurrection of Christ. By the time he ended his research, he was so convinced of the accuracy of the Bible and the resurrection of Jesus that he wrote a book and he published his findings for the world to see. How about George Lyttelton who was educated at both Eaton and Oxford. He committed himself to proving that the apostle Paul wasn’t really converted to Christianity and that the Biblical account given was false. Within a relatively short period of time, Mr. Lyttelton was convinced of the accuracy of the Biblical account and published his findings. Consider the lawyer, journalist, and novelist Albert Ross. He too set out to disprove the resurrection of Christ. After all, the Bible itself says that if Christ never rose from the dead then Christians are the most pitiable of all people. While attempting to disprove the Bible he ended up converting to Christianity, confessing Christ as Lord, and writing a book called, Who Moved The Stone? Which is still in print today. If time would permit, I could tell you of men like Simon Geenleaf, Lee Stoble, Jay Warner Wallace, and others. Time and time again the Bible has been tested by the most vehement critics and found to be The Truth.

It would seem that President Roosevelt was correct. Education can equip you with knowledge for a lifetime but it is the Bible that gives understanding about life itself and the eternal life that is to come. So, to wrap all this up, grab the best-selling, most influential, highly valuable book mankind has ever had and give it a read. If you don’t know where to start, may I suggest the Gospel of Matthew and if you have any questions feel free to contact Calvary Chapel Star: (208) 329-5144 or any Christian, Bible teaching church.

Almost 40 years later we are being asked to redefine love and what love has to do with who we are as a civilization. What does love have to do with it? In short. Love has everything to do with it.

But what is love? Is love defined by attraction? No, that is simply trying to rename, “desire.” Is it true that, “love is love?” Not at all, you cannot logically define a word by using the very word you are trying to define. Is love simply the act of accepting everything that everyone wants to do, regardless of the outcome? No, in fact, that would be incredibly unloving. Could you imagine letting a little child play with the kitchen knives because they, “want to?” Is it love to believe the lie that we are to, “mind our own business?” Not even close. In fact, Jesus Himself said that the second greatest command ever given is to love your neighbor as yourself. Applying love today does not mean we ignore those around us, nor does it mean that we step aside and watch those living in the Treasure Valley make compromised decisions with their desires that will lead to their own demise. Love is getting in the way of issues that will hurt those around us. Love is not short-term appeasement at the cost of long-term damage or ill-health.

I ask you, is it loving to encourage and expand confusion amongst the youth of our Valley and to hide what is happening at school from a child’s parents? Well, that is exactly what some school districts are proposing, and others have already embraced. Policy 3281 has exposed the intended indoctrination of the Caldwell School Board and has revealed the already unloving acceptance of it by others. Rather than focusing on reading, writing, and arithmetic, this policy embraced gender confusion and encourages children to question whom they were born to be. Like stepping into quicksand, policy 3281 will cause our kids to be stuck in confusion rather than help them out of it. This policy supports the indoctrination that children should be allowed to change their pronouns, pick a new name, participate on whichever athletic team they desire, and have access to the restrooms and locker rooms of their choice. (For the list of schools that are considering the policy, see below.)

Perhaps the most infuriating portion is that if you work for the school district and do not comply you will be met with disciplinary actions. Additionally, if you work for the school district, under policy 3281, you would be required to hide a child's actions and changes in behavior from their parents.

The loving thing is to help a child out of their confusion and turmoil, not convince them to live in it. When a toddler wakes up from a bad dream, they should be comforted and told that we are there for them and that everything is going to be ok. The same is true for anyone living with confusion and trauma, they should be loved and helped through the confusion, not convinced that the nightmare is reality. It is time for the Treasure Valley to wake up, speak up, and love their neighbor as themselves. The time for action is now. Speak the truth in love to anyone who is struggling with identity. Call, write, and visit your schools and school boards. They have already expressed that from where they sit as a district, silence is compliance.

Don’t get me wrong, for most people, regardless of age, this is their favorite season of the year. The cold crisp air, peppermint hot chocolate, decorating the tree, and soon-to-be-wrapped presents under the tree. As much as it may be done for the kids, it is not so much done by the kids. As you drive around town and see all the lights hung on houses or the gifts being loaded into cars, it is the parents that are out making Christmas happen. All of this is an expression of their kindness, love, and generosity. If the adults were not doing the giving, then no one would be getting.

Let's take this one step further, after all, maybe Christmas is not as much about the adults as we would like to think. In fact, we adults are the intended recipients of a much greater gift. In fact, the reality of Christmas is in the name, CHRISTmas. It is a season of remembering that God is benevolent, kind, generous, and giving. Consider any system of religion for a moment. Each one of them has a set list of rules and regulations and as long as you perform correctly, you will be ok in eternity. If you don’t measure up and do what you are supposed to, then your hope will melt away just like snow in the spring. It is incredibly interesting that when you compare religions, at the core they are very similar. True, they come from different places, they have different leaders, and their requirements vary from one group to another but when it’s all said and done, finding forgiveness comes from the same stringent “works-based” ideology.

Consider Jesus Christ for just a moment. Even if you don’t like Christians, you have to consider Christ, there has never been anyone like Him. The Bible teaches that mankind is unable to work off the debt of sin and while doing good deeds is a wonderful thing but it does not take away sin. God Himself knew that we would never be able to deal with our own sin so He Himself delt with it for us. The Bible says that the Lord desires that no one would perish but that all would have everlasting life and so, Jesus humbled Himself and came in the likeness of man, and then took our deserved judgment upon the cross so that we could receive the gift of eternal life. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting lift.

Even with all of God’s power and grace, the decision is up to you. Just like you could choose to leave a gift under the tree, never open it, and never receive it. You can leave the gift of forgiveness right where Christ left it. Just know that there is no other way. The reality is that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and no one will get to heaven unless it is through faith in Christ. Please, dear friend, beware of the lie that doing good deeds will pay off your eternal debt. God’s Word says that you are saved by grace through faith and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, and not of works. By faith, turn from your sins and towards the Savior. Talk to God and tell Him that you believe in what He did for you on the cross, that you receive the gift of eternal life, and that you want Him to be the Lord over your life. If you are sincere in your decision and prayer, you are forgiven by God. I pray this is the greatest CHRISTmas you will have ever had. (Romans 3:23, John 3:16, Philippians 2:5-8, John 14:6, Ephesians 2:8-9)

The Bible is the foundation for everything a Christian should do so let’s look at what the Bible says. God’s Word instructs followers of Christ to be salt and light, a description that suggests that Christians should live a life that is visible and influential. The Bible stresses that those who walk with Jesus live in the world but that they should not assimilate into the ways of the world. Early in the Sermon on the Mount Jesus taught and encouraged His followers to be bold, to be seen, and to be heard. Jesus made the simple but profound statement that a light hidden under a basked would fail to help those in a hose and that it is absurd to try and hide a city that is set upon a hill. It simply cannot be hidden. Jesus told His disciples that the things which they learned in secret were supposed to be shouted from the rooftops, or, into the public places of thought and ideas.

Dear Christian, if the word politics causes you to cringe, consider the word policies. If you had a chance to help shape the policies that influence our communities and shape the minds of our kids, don’t you think that God would want you to be involved? Yes, it is true, righteousness is not always a unifying idea, especially when it is presented to an unrighteous world. Does that mean we shy away from entering the public arena? Most certainly not. Jesus knew that what He said and what His kingdom stands for would not always be received with joy and gladness. He knew that His message could and even would bring division rather than peace. Make no mistake, God’s desire is that none would perish but that all would come to repentance and everlasting life, however, in the end He will separate the saved from the unsaved.

Lastly and perhaps one of the more sobering thoughts. Assume for a moment that there were positions of power that allowed someone to have direct influence over humanity. Don’t you think Satan would love to fill those seats with those who would do his bidding? If those who stand for righteousness will not watch over the people, evil will take control of them. As it has been said before, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”

So, should a church care about political issues? It is not that they should, it is that they must. Dear church, do not hide your light under the basket, it does not do any good for anyone. Do not try to hide the city on a hill, it is absurd to attempt to do so. Rather, speak the truth in love. If you name the name of Christ, I am praying for you. May the Lord grant you a compassionate heart and an uncompromising. Shine as a light dear saint, shout it from the rooftops.

Throughout the months of July and August we saw the Lord take care of families in need, prayer requests for people’s health answered, others committing their lives to the Lord, and kid’s becoming excited about Jesus and committing Bible passages to memory. We are also thankful and excited to announce that there are two big changes coming up in the month of September.

First, the Lord has raised up a ministry team and leader to oversee and kick off our Jr. High and High School ministries. They will be meeting on Tuesday nights at local homes starting in September. If you know any teens who need the love and hope of Jesus feel free to look up the details of these ministries on the church website (see below) or give us a call.

Second, with the weather changing and having outgrown the River House we are moving on to a new location. The Lord has provided GEM Prep North as a new Sunday morning location. We will still be having the same 9:30am and 11:30am service times, just at a new location. See the website for the most up-to-date information or see the address below. God has been good to lead, guide, and provide for the gathering together of His people and we are prayerfully excited to see what He has instore for the future. Please join us in praying for the Treasure Valley. Pray that those who do not know the Lord would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Pray for those who are bound up in false doctrines to be set free and for those ensnared to addictions of any kind to find power and a new life in Christ. Pray that God would have mercy on our state and nation through the coming elections.
